This 1998 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition convertible is in incredible, highly original, unrestored condition. One of just 1,163 built & 1 of just 55 built with the optional cost 6/ Speed manual transmission, it represents the fourth time Corvette was chosen to pace the Indianapolis 500.
The differences with its 1986 predecessor were considerable, beginning with the fact that the C5 Corvette that debuted for model-year 1997 was an entirely new design that demonstrated enormous advances in both engineering and styling.
Revolutionary changes had taken place under the new Corvette’s organically sculpted new body in an all-new, all-aluminum pushrod V-8 mounted in unison with the rest of the drivetrain in a significantly stiffer chassis.
The convertible upon which the Pace Car was based gave away practically nothing to the coupe in torsional rigidity, and the standard suspension and brakes were superior to the C4 model’s in every way.
The most prominent departure from 1986, of course, was the new car’s special livery. Whereas the sole markings on the ’86 version were simple door decals that were applied to stock factory paint only at the owner’s discretion, the new car blared its identity to one and all with perhaps the most dramatic graphics package ever seen on an Indy Pace Car.
Chevrolet stylists mixed up special Pace Car Purple Metallic paint and added brightly contrasting Yellow hood and body-side accents, yellow-painted stock wheels and a black-and-yellow leather interior.
The stock 346/350 HP LS1 engine powered all Pace Cars, and all were loaded with every factory option except a front license-plate frame, 12-disc CD changer, body-side moldings and magnesium wheels.
Almost 20 years old, this is a rare opportunity to own a two-owner example driven just 4012 actual miles since new.
This Indianapolis 500 Special 1998 Pace Car Limited Edition Convertible features the ultra-rare 6/speed manual transmission. (almost everyone had an automatic transmission) This car still has it’s ORIGINAL gorgeous factory special color paint scheme, original graphics, interior, tires and convertible top.
It has ALWAYS been treated with loving care, garage kept and driven very
sparingly and never in bad weather. It has spent most of it’s life in an
air-conditioned garage in South Florida.
Included of course are all the original manuals and the Factory window sticker, not to mention some really cool Indy memorabilia
We truly believe this is the finest example 1998 Indy 500 Corvette Pace Car with the lowest mileage, the rare 6/speed manual transmission and at
a price you will love.
